The whole Adrian Peterson thing is being made out of too big of a deal.. He is a little young to get a whooping but looking at the cuts that the little boy has are not that serious. I…
i have raised children and I’ve also been ont he receiving end of beatings. It’s not as helpful or corrective as people believe. The one thing it does do is establish an abuser-abused relationship between parent and child.
i dont deny what u went thru and i can appreciate the traumatic impression it has left upon u. but again, i say it depends upon the relationship dynamic between the parent and child and the discipline method used. there is such a thing as verbal violence as well. and my own discipline experience literally contradicts your perspective about the establishment of an abuser-abused relationship. this is not a universal outcome so it is short-sighted to paint it in general as such. my father spanked me and to this day i know that this man did not abuse me. i dont see his disciplinary actions as abuse, because i was neither beaten nor abused. i know the difference between physical discipline and abuse as an intelligent adult, a surrogate parent, a former school employee and someone who was once a child who sometimes required the disciplining that only a belt and not words can meet out. we have different levels of sensitivity to this subject, and i respect that, but i cannot be quiet when generalizations are thrown into the critique, especially when i have extensive experience on the matter that just plain knows better. agree to disagree
